Thanks, Dads!!!

Dads, your special day is in June___ a day when your children will shower you with presents and thanksgiving because you are a part of their lives. They may be too young to realize the importance of the guidelines you teach them from Proverbs, but don’t despair. It is up to God to use His Word in their lives to shape them into the kind of people He wants them to be.

You’re doing a good job when you teach them:

. . . to know and fear God. “For the reverence and fear of God are basic to all wisdom. Knowing God results in every other kind of understanding.” Proverbs 9:10 TLB

. . . that integrity and hard work will bring them blessings in life. “Telling the truth gives a man great satisfaction, and hard work returns many blessings to him.” Proverbs 12:14 TLB

. . . to seek the council of others for wisdom and advice. “A fool thinks he needs no advice, but a wise man listens to others.” Proverbs 12:15 TLB

. . . that control of the tongue is very important. “Self-control means controlling the tongue! A quick retort can ruin everything.” Proverbs 13:3 TLB

. . . that a gentle answer will get them through many tough times. “A gentle answer turns away wrath, but harsh words cause quarrels.”  Proverbs 15:1 TLB

. . .  the importance of a father’s advice. “Only a fool despises his father ’s advice; a wise son considers each suggestion.”  Proverbs 15:5 TLB

. . . that lying lips are hated by God. “The Lord detests lying lips, but he delights in those who tell the truth.” Proverbs 12:22 NLT

If you see principles here today that you have not taught your sons and daughters, ask God to give you wisdom to find the right time and opportunity to effectively teach them all of the wisdom found in the Book of Proverbs.
