Liberty & Freedom

Pictures of the American Flag, solders in uniform, the Liberty Bell, and the bald eagle all symbolize the liberty and freedom that Americans take for granted and enjoy in this wonderful country of ours.

On July 4th, fireworks can be heard in the distance and, if you have children, you may enjoy a visit to the closest park where you can watch fireworks explode in the air.

I hope you will do more than just enjoy. Take time to express worshipful appreciation, to our Wondrous God, for the privilege of living and working in America! After all, it is God who has blessed us and kept us free.

Romans 13:1 makes it pretty plain that God puts into power those He chooses to lead our country. It says, “Obey the government, for God is the one who has put it there. There is no government anywhere that God has not placed in power.” TLB

Give thanks that He {God} has chosen leaders for our country who fought for our right to worship as we choose; for our right to work and live in a country where we have the freedom to make individual choices about the minute details of our lives.

Do you pray for our military leaders on a regular basis? If that is a new thought for you, take time right now to pray for the generals, the colonels, and the sergeants to make correct decisions on a daily basis.

Our President and his Cabinet also need your daily prayer support. Try banding together with other Christians to pray for them to have the wisdom to make good decisions. Jesus said in Matthew 18:19-20 that it is important for us to “agree down here on earth concerning anything we ask for.” TLB

We have heroes throughout history who have given their lives to be the instruments God used to keep our country free. Our young men and women in Iraq and Afganistan continue to fight for that freedom. Pray for them to seek out our God and trust Him to help keep us free.
